“Courage, Dear Heart.” -C.S. Lewis: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Well. Today is the day. Today I leave my home and family. Today I take the big leap across the pond to study abroad for four months at the captivatingly beautiful (and slightly creepy) Harlaxton College. During the week, I and my many friends that I have yet to meet, will study and earn college credit hours taking various courses. My schedule looks like this: A 6 hour British Studies class (which everyone takes), The Holocaust Revisited (that’ll be a downer), and Bio Ethics (this is the only class even remotely related to my nursing major). I’m excited to learn!
But I am even more stoked for the travel I will do. On weekends I and my friends (whom I still have not met yet, but I will in several hours) will explore Europe. Although this day is exciting, it is also a day of farewells. So, my encouragement to the few who will read this and myself comes from C.S. Lewis’ The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the 5th book in the Chronicles of Narnia series. In terrifying circumstances when Lucy is tempted to despair, an albatross directs the ship toward safety. The albatross flew around the ship, circling it three times. Only Lucy knew as it circled the mast it had whispered to her in Aslan’s voice, “Courage, dear heart.”
My Adventure officially begins today.
